Light No Fire: What We Know So Far

Light No Fire has been surrounded by more questions than answers since Hello Games revealed it in December 2023. The pitch is enormous: one fantasy world built at the scale of Earth, combining exploration, survival, construction, and shared adventures.
That sounds promising—but with so little confirmed information available, it’s important to separate what Hello Games has actually announced from online speculation.
What Is Light No Fire?
Light No Fire is an open-world fantasy survival game from Hello Games, the studio behind No Man’s Sky.
Instead of spreading players across an entire universe, Light No Fire focuses on one procedurally generated fantasy planet. Hello Games intends to combine the freedom of a survival sandbox with the exploration, lore, and progression associated with role-playing games.
Players will be able to explore alone or cooperate online while building, surviving, and discovering a shared world.
What Has Been Confirmed?
Hello Games has outlined several major features:
A procedurally generated planet intended to operate at an Earth-like scale
Single-player and online cooperative play
Persistent buildings and player-created communities
Different biomes, creatures, enemies, and resources
Mountains, oceans, rivers, and large continents to explore
Sailing, creature riding, and flying dragons
A fantasy setting built around mystery, survival, and discovery
The scale is clearly a major selling point, but the shared-world component may prove equally important. Players can establish communities together or leave established areas behind and explore independently.
What Hasn’t Been Confirmed?
There is still no announced release date. The game has an official Steam page, but console platforms have not been confirmed.
Hello Games has also not announced:
Pricing
PC system requirements
Console versions
Maximum player counts
Detailed combat or progression systems
How servers and persistent structures will operate
Whether the game will receive long-term updates similar to No Man’s Sky
Light No Fire is frequently described online as an MMO, but Hello Games currently identifies it as a game supporting single-player and online cooperation. Until the studio provides more information, calling it an MMO would be speculation.
Why Light No Fire Is Worth Watching
The size of the world will attract attention, but size alone will not make the game memorable. What matters is whether that world gives players meaningful reasons to explore, build, survive, and return.
That is where Light No Fire has real potential.
Survival games often become more than their individual mechanics. They create shared stories, unexpected friendships, quiet places to decompress, and communities that continue long after the original excitement fades.
If Hello Games can combine that sense of connection with a genuinely varied fantasy world, Light No Fire could become something special.
The Bottom Line
Light No Fire is ambitious, visually striking, and still largely unknown. There is enough confirmed information to be interested, but not enough to make confident predictions about its release or final form.
For now, players can wishlist the game on Steam and wait for Hello Games to reveal more. The Rift Log will be updated as official information becomes available.
